Newsletter Issue #5 - August 2023

We were commissioned by the Guildhall to create two ride-on Giraffe’s, a wall mounted Elephant’s head and a recycling truck for the exciting new immersive play experience that is: Little Exeter. (Not your average commission!)

Our team were able to make these colourful and engaging pieces entirely from reclaimed timber and with the help of some of our valued volunteers. The Giraffe’s and the truck both have timber stud work frames and are clad in painted MDF. Go check out the new space on the first floor of Guildhall shopping centre in Exeter.

Tony

As someone who is passionate about community and reducing social isolation, Tony has a central role in the Co Create team. He was previously involved with Wood For Good Exeter, before it came to merge with Co Create.

Tony oversees our drop-in sessions and community engagement days, as well as leading or supporting our various woodwork courses.

Tony often has a new wood-focused project on the go and will comment that he loves the time it gives him to focus on something practical and tangible. Tony is such an integral part of the Co Create community - if you see him around the workshop do say hello!

This September, we are launching Community Thursdays. Every Thursday, the workshop will be open as a drop-in space where you are invited to come and be creative, learn new skills, share your own skills and meet new people. Beyond our courses this initiative aims to further community engagement and aid wellbeing for the individuals who come.

Each Thursday, there will be a variety of table top creative activities happening in our studio space (from door wedge making, to clothes mending, through to clay earring making!). You can check out what’s going on in September & October by looking at our courses page.

Community Thursdays also offers the opportunity to make some of our products for Co Create Shop in the upstairs workshop.

The drop-in space will be open from 9:30am through to 3:30pm, and we’ll enjoy a free lunch together at 12:30pm. You don’t need to sign up for this, you are welcome to just come along. However, if you are interested in volunteering to make some of our products for the Co Create Shop, it would be helpful for us if you could sign up below.

Our first Community Thursdays is happening on September 14th. We’d love to see you there!
